What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient technique in which a skilled practitioner inserts thin needles into specific points on the body
to stimulate a self healing response. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, and it is part of the holistic system
of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Acupuncture views health as a constantly changing flow of
energy, or Qi (pronounced "chee"). When the movement of Qi (energy) is disrupted due to diet, medications, stress, or
other medical conditions, pain or illness can result. The aim of acupuncture is to balance the energy, keep the normal flow
of energy unblocked, and restore and maintain health to the body and mind.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, acupuncture is extremely safe. The most common side-effect, which is highly uncommon, is minor bruising. No major side
effects are caused by acupuncture. In addition, the needles used in acupuncture treatments are individually packaged, sterile
Does it hurt?
To the relief of many, acupuncture is not painful. The needles are only inserted a few millimeters deep and are only about
as thin as a human hair. The actual insertion is almost painless and in many cases, patients are not aware when the needles
have been inserted. In other cases, one may experience some warmth or a slight tingling. Most patients fall asleep during treatment.
What can I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will consist of an extensive and thorough medical evaluation, discussion regarding your diet and current
lifestyle, diagnosis , and acupuncture treatment. The first session is about 2 hours in length.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my first visit?
Please call us with any questions or concerns you may have prior to your visit. Wear loose and comfortable clothing . Avoid
treatment when excessively fatigued, hungry, full, or emotionally upset. Avoid any alcohol, drug or caffeine consumption
24 hours prior to your appointment. Please complete and bring any forms that were sent to you prior to your visit, if
any, and also bring a list of any medications you are currently taking.

The amount and frequency of treatments will largely depend on the nature and severity of your complaint and on your body's
